In this role, you will support manufacturing and new-product development by conducting sample analysis, overseeing the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) facilities, and training and assisting users on routine microscopic examinations throughout the Medical Products Division. The ideal candidate will:

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing samples
• Performing SEM imaging
• Operating and maintaining the SEMs and ancillary equipment and facilities on a daily basis
• Training associates
• Promoting the use of imaging technologies as problem-solving and product-innovation tools for analysis of synthetic biomaterials and biological specimens
• Interacting and engaging with scientists, engineers, and manufacturing associates working on new-product development and manufacturing support
• Working between several facilities
• Writing concise reports

Required Job Qualifications

• Bachelor of science degree
• At least 4 years' experience in biomaterials or a life-science-related field
• Experience in electron microscopy imaging
• Intimate overall knowledge of current SEM equipment, methodologies (backscattered imaging, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, etc.), and ancillary equipment (EDS, cross-sectional polisher, sputter coater, etc.)
• Broad knowledge of SEM methodologies, including critical point drying, sputter coating, and advanced SEM analysis of biological and biomaterial specimens
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated
• Ability and willingness to work hands-on
• Ability to:
• Work independently and within diverse teams
• Travel up to 10% and work between several facilities

Desirable Job Qualifications

• Advanced degree (master's or doctorate) in a relevant field
• Experience in image analysis of biomaterials and tissue-biomaterial interactions
