As a leading manufacturer of vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, surgical meshes for hernia repair, and sutures, we are looking for a Machine Shop Leader to join our Skilled Trades team in Flagstaff, AZ. In this role, you will lead machine shop activities at one of our Medical Products Division (MPD) manufacturing plants. You will provide leadership and direction to Skilled Trades associates in support of manufacturing and new-product development and also perform hands-on machining. You will partner with diverse teams within the facility as well as with other shop leaders and associates throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will:
- Be passionate about leading machine-shop activities that support manufacturing of state-of-the-art implantable medical devices
- Be energized by working for a world-class manufacturer and collaborating on cross-functional teams
- Recognize the importance of building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships
- Providing machining support by programming, setting up, and operating various CNC and manual machines
- Driving resource planning, hiring, associate development, performance management, and conflict resolution to develop a high-performing team
- Executing and driving timely completion of all machine-parts and machine-build activities
- Partnering with engineering, manufacturing, and leadership to understand needs and priorities
- Maintaining a safe work environment and providing support for safety programs
- Establishing and communicating clear priorities and focus for the team
- Ensuring that shop operations provide high-quality service with timely turn-around
- Leveling workload through your shop, other shops in MPD, or outsourcing
- Supporting inventory-management programs
- Implementing and following practices, procedures, and administrative documentation as required by the FDA for medical-device manufacturers
- Ensuring adequate traceability of materials/components to meet medical industry standards
- Driving the process of training Skilled Trades associates in the MPD quality system and ensuring team compliance with quality-system requirements
- Understanding each shop associate's activities and contributions
- Holding individuals and the team accountable for meeting objectives and adhering to procedures and practices
- Promoting associates' growth and development
- Providing mentorship and coaching
- Developing operational objectives and associated metrics for the machine shop
- Driving continuous-improvement efforts and using Lean manufacturing principles
- Participating in and supporting division wide shop-improvement activities
- Aligning shop procedures and practices within MPD
- Championing and modeling the Gore culture
Required Job Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years' experience in a shop environment in support of manufacturing, new-product development, and R&D activities
- Journeyman-level machinist
- Experience leading skilled-trades activities
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and priorities
- Competency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications, CAD to CAM file programming, and maintenance-management systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams, both internally and externally
- Ability and willingness to accept and drive change for continuous improvement
- Associate or bachelor of science degree in an applicable technology, or completion of an apprenticeship program
- Ability to use SolidWorks, CAMWorks, or Mastercam CAM programs
